One idea you can implement has to do with investment risks. You can invest during any stage of your life, but using different percentage of risk based on years before you retire. If you’re 20, then you’re able to invest in higher percentage of risks compared to someone retiring in 5 years. Also more money should be socked away the closer you get to retirement.
Once your financial planning has been put into action, considering your life planning needs to be put in order. If you want to have the best life after retirement, then you’ll need to determine what type of life that would be. This is also important when you create your financial plan, because you will expect to maintain or improve the quality of your life after the paycheck stops coming in. What are your travel plans? What hobbies would you like to pursue? Do you have an interest in returning to school to obtain a higher degree or learn something new? A make a list of everything you would love to do, to have and to be during your retirement. Of course, these things require money, that’s why financial planning becomes essential. Planning as early as possible allows you more time you build up your nest egg that can place you in a very comfortable retirement.
We’ve discussed financial planning and your retirement dream list, but most importantly is your attitude towards this new aspect of your life. In order to have the best life after retirement you would need to view this as the most wonderful part of your new life. Some people become so attached to their job or business that they allow employment to define who they are instead of placing employment in its true role – service that helps others and earns the employee an income, salary, commission, etc. When the job defines you it’s hard to let go.
However, by placing employment a different perspective, you’ll soon see you can still help people, you can still be a wonderful asset to your family, community and the world. With so much life experience under your belt, you can help mentor someone who wishes to follow in your footsteps. Now that time is yours, you can literally help more people because you can choose how, when and where. And remember, where is not limited to your neighborhood, not even your own country. There are many countries that would truly appreciate whatever time, funds or experience you have to offer.
